Where do we go from here/what do we need to expect?

I was sitting at a red light waiting to turn, when a truck ran a red light and was t-boned right into me, head on. I went to the doctor for some muscular pain done to my back as a result of the accident. The truck driver was at fault and his insurance adjuster called and stated that my car was a total loss and was in average condition. What should I expect from the insurance company? My car was a nice Honda and in great condition, both mechanically and physically. It was paid for and we were not planning on purchasing another car for at least another four or five years. We took good care of our car, in fact just put 300.00 worth of tires on it less than a month ago. Not only did I loose a day of work, I am out of a great car, that was fuel efficient and very reliable. What do I do? What can I expect to get for our total losses?

You can expect fair market value for your vehicle. In other words, your going to get a lot less than you think the car is worth. The tire issue is irrelevent, unless you have a high end tire and wheel package, new tires do not add to the value of a vehicle. You should also expect compensation for the medical bills and time lost at work. Negotiate the best deal you can and accept it.
