Young couple seeking advice...

California

My girlfriend rear ended someone in her sisters car and then someone also hit her from behind and smashed in the trunk, the car is totaled. No one was seriously hurt but we discovered today that her insurance policy had expired last month and we were already past our grace period, i guess her parents forgot to add her to their insurance again so there was no insurance on the car and she had no insurance as well. She is 17 years old and has only been driving for a couple months and we have no idea where to start with this situation, she has barely enough saved to start college next semester and i dont want this to ruin anything for her financially; any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank You!

From your description of the wreck, it looks like your girlfriend was at fault. She may have to get a really good paying job to pay for the damage.

Also, she may be in trouble with the DMV for not having insurance. She may get her license revoked or suspended.

your girlfriend is facing a suspension of her license for at least 6 months. she will need to provide proof of insurance to get it restored.

she will be responsible for the damage and injuries to the car she hit.

however, your girlfriend's sister can make a claim for the rear damage to her car against the person who hit her car.

did the rearend hit to her car cause the car to hit the car ahead a second time?
