7 year old credit card bill What is the name of your state? Indiana
I had a credit card with my ex boyfriend back in 1995-1996. When we split we called Chase bank to ask them what to do to get the card in his name and out of mine. They told us at the time to write a letter stating what we want and send it in and they would change it. I was only 18 years old and didnt know alot about credit, so I believed them. We wrote the letter and I gave him the card. He maxed it out, about $2000 if I remember correctly, and then filed bankruptcy. They contacted me at the time for payment and I disputed it because they gave me false information. I also disputed it with the credit bureau and the credit bureau took it off my credit. Now, out of the blue, almost 9 years later, I am contacted by a collection agency. They say I now owe $7500. I mailed them a dispute letter and when they called I explained the situation. They said they don't care and they would be contacting my work and my bank and hung up on me. I read on line that the SOL for Indiana is 6 years. Is this true? I don't know what to do. My credit, other than this, is good. I have alot of debt, but it is current. I am afraid of what they will do. HELP!!! |
