$77 lawsuit

I live in Florida.

Last spring, without my asking for her help, my ex-fiance's mother offered to help me with insurance and car reapirs. Nothing was ever said about my paying back the insurance. I did agree to pay back car repair costs when I received my student loan, which wasn't going to be until the fall.

When my fiance and I broke up, she tells me I owe her over $1,000 and she wanted it then and there. I tried to pay her as I could, but it was never fast enough. She contacted my mother, who began making payments without discussing it with me. We received a letter from my ex-mother-in-law saying we owe $77 and that she'd sue if she didn't get it within a few days. She's gotten everything except $77, which means she's gotten money back that I did not agree to pay. Now she's threatening to sue. What do I do?

Pay the $77 and be done with it. It is not worth the trouble. Take the high ground.
