Authorized User & DivorcedWhat is the name of your state? Kentucky, but GA laws may apply My fiancee' decided to pull his credit report tonight, he had never looked at it before & was curious just what was on there. He has excellent payment histories, but alot of his ex's CC's are on his report which is affecting his overall debt ratios. She is paying the CC's, as she should be, but she also continues to charge on them. He is listed as an authorized user. From the information he has given me, only 1 of the cards has he actually ever used to make a purchase, but not since they separated 1 1/2 years ago. The divorce decree (she had an attorney, he just signed what she sent) only referenced one of his cards & one of hers...he didn't question it & was just trying to get the divorce finalized. I wasn't aware at that point of his liabilities or I would have encouraged different verbiage in the agreement. Both mortgages are being refinanced, so that shouldn't be an issue. How would he go about getting himself off of her cards & them off of his credit? Is this something she would have to do? Like I said, all of the cards are current, but if she ever did default, it would take him down with her. She is not the most receptive person, hence the "ex", & would not "help" in anyway. There has got to be a way to break clean from this before there is an issue. Any advice on how to do this? Thanks in advance |

| He needs to contact all three credit bureaus (Equifax, Experian, Trans-union) and demand he be taken off as an "authorized user". Have him send a CRRR letter stating his name, SS number, a copy of his SS card and CURRENT drivers licensce with the demand for removal...

Thank youI didn't know if that would be all that was required or not, I know that the CC like having 2 fish on the hook instead of just one. But, we will definately take your advice & get those requests sent immediately. Another question, will getting them removed from the report automatically update the CC companies records? I'm just thinking that if they only got removed from the CR & the CC companies never updated their files, then it's possible one day, if she ever did become delinquent, that they could reappear? |
