bad debt

i have 3 credit cards wich are all past due and over the limit and racking up charges i am working with consumer credit councelling service but its awfully slow and i have the creditors calling and telling me that it wont help me i will still get charges and late fees and all that jazz i have a low income because i am disabled i made the mistake of letting one of the creditors withdraw an electronic payment from my checking account wich they did and was no problem untill i got a letter in the mail stating that a second transfer was going to be made 6 days after the payment we aranged through the account it was for a lousy 39 dollars so i called them up and told them i agreed to pay that fee and told them that i could not pay a second payment 6 days later no less because i didnt have the fund available in my account to cover it and their reply to me was "OH WELL" i was very mad and got nowhere with them so i waited till the 1st of the next month when my disability check was direct deposited into my acound and i got my lates bank statement and saw that they did try to take the 39 dollars out not once but many times within a weeks period so my account was minus 149 dollars wich caused a domino effect on all 3 of my cards because of my low income i fell behind in all payments and now all are in collection agencies and im not really sure what to do consumer credit seems the way to go but the payments i would be making would probably just go to interest and i think i will be paying this the rest of my life and i need advice as to what i can do about this

Dear NuclearGimp,

Dump CCCS as quickly as you can. Your payments are being eaten up by late fees and "voluntary contributions." Call each of the three companies, explain to them that you are receiving Social Security and you have three creditors to pay and offer to pay them each the same amount of money each month if they will stop the late fees and interest.

If you are able to prove to them that you are only receiving Social Security and this is the only way they can hope to get paid, they will most likely accept the arrangement. If you do not receive cooperation from the "debt collector" that answers the phone, keep working your way up through supervisors and managers until you get an acceptable response.

Good Luck!
