Bank bought-out, not going with new bank.

What is the name of your state? Tennessee.

I had an account with AmSouth Bank. AmSouth was purchased by Regions bank. In order to accomplish the merger Regions was forced to sell some of the branches to USbank. My account was one of the ones sold to USbank. I did not wish to bank with USbank due to the hefty fees they impose.
Unfortunatly I was unable to close the account before the sale was finalized. I had an outstanding debit to the account and they would not allow me to shut it down.
There is exactly 3.28 in the checking account right now. I called USbank to close the account and was told there is a 15 dollar fee to close an account opened for less than 6 months. There is also a 7 dollar a month fee for the checking account. If they try to debit my account for the 7 dollars I will be overdrawn which will probably result in a 35 dollar fee.
My question. I never signed an account agreement with them. My account was assigned to them without my approval. Am I liable for the 15 dollar closing fee?

I don't know what the bank will do about the overdraft fee.

However, your consent is not required for the transfer of your account between banks. If you go back and read the original agreement you signed with the first bank, you will find you gave your consent.

Do you really want to mess with your credit or risk a black mark in chex systems over a really piddly amount of money?
