Question

Bank Card Collection after nearly 20 years

What is the name of your state? Texas - Illinois

I was recently contacted by a collections agency for a bank card debt that dates back to '87 (almost 20 years). When contacted by phone, I did not acknowledge the debt. What is the statue of limitations for attempting to collect on a debt of this type? Can this agency again file this action with the credit bureau? Can I be sued? Do I have any rights in this matter?

SOL in Illinois is 5 yrs for oral, 10 yrs for written, 10 yrs for promissory and 5 yrs for Open-ended Accounts. The clock starts from last payment.

Would this collection agency be CAMCO by any chance ?? They just love to harrass people for debts that are long, long past the statute of limitations.

SOL in TX is even shorter - 4 years for all debts.

Use the info in that other thread and send these low-life scumbag packing !

Yes, the company is CAMCO out of Rockford, IL

Thanks for the quick response from both of you. I'll now be able to give them a proper response.

If you have not paid the card after the SOL clock ran out, I would send a cease and desist letter. This is probably now "Zombie Debt". If on the other hand, the SOL has not run out, pay it or ask for a payment plan.
