Bank deposit error - what shall i do?What is the name of your state? Hong Kong Yesterday i asked a relative to deposit 150 euros in my bank account. Today i checked the account slip and it read EU 650!! Which means i am up 500!!! Thats alot of money. What shall I do? Own up to the bank error or keep quiet and assume it was a bank error. Is there any risk in keeping quiet or does the bank hold the rights to claim bank and sue me? Thanks. |

Believe me, clear this up now. It is not "Free Money Day" at your bank, and you will pay the consequences for taking money that does not belong to you.

In the United States, this course of action is known by the quaint term stealing. |

ThanksThanks for the advice. The laws are similar to Hong Kong when it comes to banking etc. I have contacted the bank and gave them back the money. I did not spend the money because as you mentioned, they did notice the error during that days calculation. Cheers |
