Bank made a mistake and just gave me 100k?!

Ok so heres my crazy situation... I recently made a Travelex "Visa TravelMoney" card (basically a checking account) to contain my money while I was traveling through South East Asia. And when I created this card I put 1000USD onto it... However, when using this card to withdraw money from my local bank the receit I got is telling me my balance is actually 100,000USD. At first I thought it was just a mistake on the receit but I have tried different banks, and in different currencies it has told me the same thing. Also I believe (although am not sure) that I have already withdrawn over 1000USD from the account.

Anyway, Im still not 100% sure what is going on but IF there was a mistake on the balance or somehow I do actually have 100k in this account. but if I choose to take that money out is it legally mine? I have heard stories of ATMs having problems which made them spill out huge amounts of money, and then the people who took that money being accused of stealing but this is a little bit different.

So what should I do?

Contact Travelex and report the problem.

And when you contact them, make arrangements to pay back the amount over $1000 that you withdrew. Yes, you can be prosecuted if you fail to return the money.

Also, withdrawing more than you know is available will be considered theft.

Anything that you take OVER and above the amount you deposit, will have to be repaid to them.

Yes... UNTIL they demand it back.

No it isn't. You know the money is not yours. If you take it you WILL have to pay it back.... and on THEIR terms, not yours.

First, don't take out more than the original $1,000. Contact them to have them fix their mistake. Oh, and while talking with them... you might as well get their address so that you can pay them for any money that you took that was NOT yours.

Why has he spent over $1.35M in legal fees to block disclosure... rather than spend $12 for a VALID birth cert to settle the matter? The 'certificate' he has presented doesn't qualify to get a drivers license, wouldn't allow a child to qualify for Little League, or for a real citizen to get a US passport!

Hi, thanks for all the advice. It seems people here know a lot more than my friends who all told me to just take the money and buy a house in Thailand haha.

Right now I honestly am not sure if I have withdrawn more or less than the original money as Ive been taking it out in a foreign currency and my balance is not obvoisuly not accurate. So anyway, if I have taken out more than I had by accident would they still force me legally to pay it back?
