Bank sent us someone else's letter and information

What is the name of your state? Missouri

Im just curious what, if anything, I should do about this. Today I received a letter from my bank saying that they paid a check for me on my overdraft access. No big deal. Enclosed in this letter, by accident of course, was a letter to someone else. It has his address and his account number and it states that they closed his account etc. This has his personal information on it. Should I notify him? The bank? It alarms me that they can make such an error. What if that would have been my account information they sent. I would be irate. Just like to know what everyone thinks.

Also I might add that his letter was addressed from the main bank and ours was from our local bank. Curious to know how that happened.

Should the man be notified? I would want to know if they made a mistake like that with my account.

I would leave this up to the bank to notify the man and everyone else who may have been compromised by their error... you really need to call them asap. good luck!

Banks are having problems lately with compromising customer data. B of A recently lost customer data http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7032779/ . Now your bank is sending letters with other account holders info! It is important for you to closely monitor your credit reports will the Big 3, as you don't know if anyone was mailed your account info by your bank!

This is what I am worrying about because I know that with a name, address, phone number and checking account number you can shop online and by phone etc. Thanks for the link.

Update!

Well I called the bank this morning and spoke to the Vice President...that is who the letter is addressed from. She seemed very nervous and got tangled in her words many times. She said she would look into it and piece together what happened then call me back early afternoon. Get this, She didnt even ask me for the letter, or even proof of the letter. before I hung up I asked, "Don't you want me to bring you the letter?" She replied. "NO, its not necessary." I guess she doesnt care that I have his personal information still. Um, hello this lady is more incompetent that the employee she had send out the letters to begin with. I asked if she was going to notify this man. She said well his account has been closed so I dont see that it is necessary. Um, hello again....I see that it is VERY necessary. She should be calling him not me. I will keep you all updated. This is too good to be true. Or I should say too BAD to be true. P.S. I am closing my account today.

I should also mention how funny it is that the letter I received was signed by this lady who is Vice President and she is ALSO the bank's Information Security Officer. Now that's a good one huh?
