bankruptcy questionWhat is the name of your state? massachusetts I have been unemployed for 12 months, just started collecting unemployment 6 months ago and it will end in 2 weeks. I have no assets and nothing in the bank. I have approx. $8,000 in credit card debt and just recieved a judgement against me for $16,000 for an old debt for college. I know student loans are not cleared by bankruptcy, but I never recieved a loan. The school promised me a loan, I filled out the paperwork and I guess my credit wasn't good enough so the school sent me the bill when the smester was over. My questions are, what are my chances of getting the $16,000 seen as a debt and not a loan and getting it cleared, and will it make any difference that a judgement was found against me? |

| You should have fought this BEFORE they got the default judgment ! Were you served papers ? Were you given a court date ? If so, why didn't you go ? At any rate, if this is recent, you may still have time to appeal the judgment, but you'd best call the courthouse and find out if you still can. If you weren't served propery, you could get it vacated on those grounds too, but you'll have to get the proof of service papers from the court to find out how service was done.
