I live in Arizona. Twice during the last year I have been contacted by a collection agency saying that I owed money. When I called them it turned out that it was my name but someone elses S.S. #. The people were rude to say the least. When I talked to the manager of one person he said that they do automatic searches for the people that they are looking for which is where my name came up. First is this legal and second is there any recourse. I would like to be as much as a pain to them as they were to me. Any advice would be appreciated.

You probably should pull your credit report and see if someone is using your name to obtain credit.
I'd just send a cease and desist letter saying they got the wrong person .
