Yes, your employer may legally be contacted.
Ca Civil Code § 1788.12(a) permits communications with a debtor's employer, provided (i) the debtor (or his or her attorney) consents in writing; or (ii) the communication is "necessary" to:
• Verify the debtor's employment;
• Locate the debtor;
• Garnish the debtor's wages after judgment; or
• Ascertain the existence of medical insurance for the collection of a medical debt. [Ca Civil Code § 1788.12(a)]
