Can I get in trouble for this?

My ex-fiance and I were together for 5 1/2 years all that time living in his house. He was unemployed for about 5 years of it, but lived off his mother(I know, I know). She gave him one of her credit cards to use, and he eventually gave it to me to use when I went to the grocery store. During X-mas he gave it to me to use to buy gifts for HIS family.

Now that I have left him, he won't let me go back and get all of my things. He says that if I do try to get my stuff before he's ready for me to then he'll find a way to get me in trouble for using his mothers credit card. I know that she would have to do that, but he influences her.

Can I really get in trouble for that? My sister is a witness to him giving me the credit card and telling me to go to the grocery store! And this wasn't a few times thing.. it was over the last few years. Is he just blowing smoke out of his you-know-what, or should I worry?

Also, he says he is waiting for copies of receipts over the last few years from the credit card company so that I can't take anything that was bought using that. They don't have receipts I thought.... I don't want to take anything that was bought with that CC. My family says I need to contact a lawyer, but I don't have the money to do that. So.. again.. should I worry about what he could do legally or is he full of bologna?

Call the sheriff and ask for an escort to go pick up personal property from your ex. If he makes a scene, there will be a police report to back you up when you sue and file a criminal complaint for theft.

Do as stated, get a police escort to retrieve your items, if he gets fresh, the police will handle him.

It would be very dificcult for him to get you in trouble seeing as most if not all the expenses were for household items that he KNEW were for the house.

On top of that, since he knew you were using the card, and did not take any action to stop you from using the card, only goes to show that you were allowed to use said card, plus for so many years! If he was really concerned about you using the card, he should have stopped you after the first transaction.

Thanks for the advice. We called the police and they said the only way they will come to the house is if I dial 911. I did that once, and they told me to leave and come back later.. not a lot of help.
I guess I can go out there and call the police if need be.. at least I'll get something.

Not the police -- call the sherrif and ask for an escort.
