can they companies apply for a cc if you said u didnt want it?

Georgia.

i recently went to a huge electronics store and bought a tv. well i saw they had the certain month no financing deal so i applied for their in-store card and they asked if i wanted to also apply for their platinum MC and i said "no" and didnt sign the application for it. well i got my mail the other day, 2 letters from the same company, 1 said "thanks for applying for your in-store card, you've been approved" the other letter said you have been denied for the platinum MC. Is there some kind of law making it illegal for a company to just run an application for a cc through without authorization? and i heard this will hurt my credit rating like 2 points b/c they checked it, which makes me mad b/c i didnt even want them to. any adive is welcome thanks.

Try the easy way first. Write them {CRRR} and tell them you never applied and to please correct their mistake and remove any inquiry from your credit report.
Check your credit reports and see if an inquiry is on them for the MC.
