Bill collectors are currently inundating my Wife and me. We are both back in College, in effort to make more money to pay these old bills. We have downsized our lifestyle accordingly. I use this same phone line that the collectors call on, to take and solicit job offers for my other business as a performing artist. (Magician) Is it legal for bill collectors to call you at your place of business? I don’t think it is in Texas. Can someone advise me of the laws that support this? I want to know what to tell them so that they will stop harassing my wife at work (the School she teaches at) and here too.
We will gladly pay all, once we get our heads above water. I just need to see what the legalities are for Texas and what to say to make them stop threatening her when I’m gone.

Thanks!

Lightbulb

please look up public code 93-109, you will love the information you get on this code, it is good that you want
to repay the credit, but understandable that it will take time. You have rights also and this code will tell you them. Good Luck

Thanks tmtm for your help. I have searched for "public code 93-109" on this website and Altavista, but can't seem to find what it is you are pointing me too. Could you be a little more specific of where to find this? Thanks again!

I used to work as a collector.
This is what to do.

1. Write a letter to the collection agency and tell them to cease and desist calling you at home and at work. The only contact must be in writing. This should stop the calls. Be sure and certify the letter with a return receipt. Also be sure and keep a copy of the letter for your own records.
2. On above, they were referring the FDCPA law. You may look at the 'Fair Debt Collection Practices Act' for yourself....as it is written by using the following technique

Go to http://www.ixquick.com
Enter 'fair debt collection practices act' under the search
One of the first sites that comes up with the below address....go ahead and click on
http://www.ftc.gov/os/statues/fdcpajump.htm

then click on Fair Debt Cellection Practices Act (I use text) and you can see the law for yourself
If you want to see the law that debt collectors must stop
calling you after you have notified them you want no more contact....click on '805 Communication in connection with debt collection' and down down to section C.

Thank You, Anthony1234!

And Thanks to freeadvice.com for helping me again.

You folks helped me about a year ago to successfully defend and win a lawsuit from (beleive it or not) Barney, the Purple Dinosaur. (Barney--not Dino, the original Purple dinosaur)
