can't pay credit card debts

What is the name of your state? louisiana
i have been unemployed since march 2003. i am drawing unemployment checks which will run out soon and then no income at all !. i have approx. $33,000 in credit card debt.
i sent all a letter with payment stating my situation. i can only pay $20 per month . some have been turned over to collections and today i was served papers for a lawsuit from one of them. i am going to clerk of court to fill out form to disagree with lawsuit to postpone and get more time. what can they do if i can't pay ?, go to jail, take things in my house, take my house which is not paid for.( government owns it.) vehicle ? interest, late fees, overlimit fees, or racking up the balance and $20 per month is not helping anything.
thank you !!!

There are no debtors prisons. You won't go to jail. Likely, they can place a lein against your house and once you get a job garnish your wages.
I'd suggest a visit to a bk lawyer and get all of your options explained may be in order. Most give free initial consultations.
