Cell phone debt

What is the name of your state? New Hampshire.....

I moved up to NH from NC and I had a Cingular Cell phone that I had in NC well when I moved up to NH i kept the cell phone and still used it, and usually it says a different carrier on the phone screen if you are roaming...but it didn't ever say anything different than cingular. So I continued to use it but when i got a bill for 4,500.00 I stopped using it and called them and told them that it still said cingular on it so I continued to pay my regular monthly payment. Well cingular continued to still charge me monthly fees and interest and then when i did not pay the full amount the cancelled my phone which was fine with me because i didn't use it anyways and then they sent it to a lawyers office but certain things in their letters makes me think that they are collections agency just posing as a law office to try to get me to pay. Well when the lawyers office kept calling and telling me that I owe in full 8,000.00 I told them that I could not pay that full amount that i could send them 50.00 a month they said that was not good enough that they were going to take legal action. Well I didn't hear from them for several months and now they are calling me again and calling my work and my other relatives harrassing me saying that i have to pay in full 8,000.00. And today a lady from the place told me that if i didn't do something about it she would not be able to hold the account any longer. What does this mean? What are my options and legal rights? and What can they do?

Thanks Laura

It is obvious that you are being hounded by a debt collector. Send them a cease and desist letter. A sample letter can be found at:

Send it certified RRR.

Why has he spent over $1.35M in legal fees to block disclosure... rather than spend $12 for a VALID birth cert to settle the matter? The 'certificate' he has presented doesn't qualify to get a drivers license, wouldn't allow a child to qualify for Little League, or for a real citizen to get a US passport!

Cell Phone Debt

Thanks! Last night I actually looked at the letters they sent me and at the bottom of the letter it says this information is from a debt collector. How can they say that they are lawyers if it says debt collector and collection agency?

*** They could be a 'collections' attorney, but I doubt that they really are. You might want to check with the state Bar Association where they are located and see if in fact they are a licensed attorney.
