Cellular Phone Bill

What is the name of your state? New York
we are being charged $1000 on a bill that is only $400.00. we were contacted about a month ago by a collection agency stating that if we paid that $400 right here and now that the business would be paid off and would not have anymore dealings with that company, so we paid them with a check over the phone that same day. we thought it was all over and taken care of but now we are being harrassed by that collection agency wanting more money. what should we do, we were told it was done with.
one more thing the last bill we received was for $400.00 where the $1000.00 came from nobody knows and when we tried to contact the place of business we got the run-a-round and no answer and then some how "disconnected". (we didn't pay the $400 in the begining because there were many errors on the bill but that place of business didn't want to be bothered.)
Thank you for your time.

I am confused, was the original debt $400.00 or the "settlement" offer was for $400.00 and absence of it in writing, how are you to prove that?

I am asking what the original total claimed amount according to the provider or their collection agent, with what you claim are false charges included.

reply to cell phone questions

$400.00 was the total charge including late charges. We also had false charges for calls made nov. 11 but we shut the phone off when the contract ended oct 1. they are calls to out of state of which no one in this household has made. When we did contact the company they smuggly said "they could just be simple mistakes" we then were contacted by a collection agency -who recorded the conversation-who stated that if we settled with what we owed because of the discrepancy's we would have no further dealing with the company.

Do you have a written bill or notice to pay, or a notice reflecting payment and balance due?
