Charge Off Credit Card Acct Now SuingI had a charge card which was charged off as bad debt in 1997 for aprox $4,700. Today, I just received a summons to appear in court for a pre-trial regarding the monies owed. If something has been charged off as bad debt, can the credit card company sue you. I was always told, that they could not sue you for this? |

| Chargeoff is just an accounting term meaning they don't think they can collect and are notifing shareholders and regulators of this fact. It in no way cancels the debt. It can certainly be subjected to collection activity and that includes lawsuits. In which state to you reside. Prehaps the SOL can give you some relief? |
