Cheer Dad and Kids ripped off.

mWhat is the name of your state? Illinois

I won't get into all the details. However, I and others are tying to build a gymnasium for some needy kids to learn cheer and tumbling.

One lady who said she could get the loan to finance the building asked me if I could make the downpayment on the loan so she could get her loan approved. I did and now I've been ripped off. I am now approaching this from several legal avenues.

She took my cashiers check drawn on my bank with my name printed as Payor (remitter) and scratched out my name and put her name. The Payee was her bank which was correct. She did not alter the date, the amount, or the payee. However she did remove my name and put hers...probably so her bank would think the down payment was from her and not from someone else.

Did she commit a crime? Did she defraud her bank? If she mailed check, can we add mail fraud? Im seeking advice from all sources.....can someone help he here?

Thanks in advance.

Did you put any of your arrangements/agreements concerning this venture in writing?

Take the cashier's check receipt to the police and ask them
