Collection Agency won't correct records

I live in Maryland.

Hello,
We recently moved to Maryland. Unfortunately, it would seem that our brand-new telephone number, which we've already told everyone is ours, formerly belonged to someone in trouble with a collection agency.

Over the last two weeks, we've received daily calls from "National Action Financial Services" out of Williamsville, New York, asking for someone who does not live here. Every time they call, we tell them they have the wrong number and ask them to correct their records. Every time, they assure us they will do so. Yet every day, we receive another call, sometimes from the exact same person.

I'd really like to avoid changing the phone number, since we've already let people know it's ours (including my place of business) and my sense of justice would rather see the collection agency in hot water for being such buffoons.

Are there any laws they're breaking, consumer protection rules they're not following, etc. in refusing to change their records? We're not a client of theirs and haven't solicited their business; can we recover money from them for failing to stop calling us?

Best regards,
Jonathan Williams

Send them a letter {CRRR} telling them the party they are seeking does not reside at that number and to never call the number again. If they still call. you can sue for FDCPA violations as well as whatever telephone harrassement laws your state has on the books. First, give them the chance tpo correct the record.
