Collection question

What is the name of your state? Texas.

I just received a letter from a colletion agency for a debt that I supposedly owe to Quest Care Medical Services.

I had medical tests done when I lived in Pittsburgh, PA back in 1999 I have since moved to Dallas, TX. Because of the move I've misplaced a lot of my records from this time and closed the bank account that I had.

I can't remember exactly what happened, but I seem to recall that Quest setup a couple of accounts for the work I had done. I was making payments on one account and I was not aware of the second account until they sent me a notification that I was late on it. I called them and thought that I had resolved that issue by having them consolidate everything that I owed them to just one account. Apparently they didn't and sold the second account to the collection company that is now trying to collect on it.

My problem is that I don't have any documentation to back this up and want to know what I should do.

Thanks

My response:

Look, we don't have time for guessing games. Just tell us what it is that you ULTIMATELY want; e.g., to get out of paying the debt, or what?

If you don't know what its for, send the CA a validation letter and make them tell you.. and prove the debt in the process. This is your right under the FDCPA (Fair Debt Collection Practices Act).

If they can't validate it they have to cease collection on it.

You can get more validation info at www.creditinfocenter.com

Ladynred, our writer already KNEW about the debt and "what it's for."

Our writer said, "I called them and thought that I had resolved that issue by having them consolidate everything that I owed them to just one account."

OP ALSO said:

Quote:
" I called them and thought that I had resolved that issue by having them consolidate everything that I owed them to just one account. Apparently they didn't and sold the second account to the collection company that is now trying to collect on it."
(why don't they enable these VB codes ??)

Even though the OP knows what is about, w/o any documentation to know what may or may not have been done with this account, its impossible to be sure what they're actually after. Its possible there's an error. Demanding validation would produce the records needed to clear it up.

Is that such a horrid idea ??? Besides, I'd make ANY CA for an old debt PROVE that the debt is valid and that what they are demanding as payment is legit.

====================================

My response:

That's not going to happen.

Tell us what your ULTIMATE goal is in this matter - - is it your intent to pay the debt, or are you looking for a way out of paying?
