Collections....What is the name of your state? VA. I've seen on this board that you should send a validation letter to the CA's. Could you tell me what benefit these letters have??? And where could I see a sample letter? Thanks in advance for any help.... |

| There are several 'benefits' to a DV letter. First, if the CA is abiding by the FDCPA, ALL collection activity must stop once they receive your DV letter. The account MUST be marked as 'in dispute' with all 3 CRA's It forces the CA to prove that the debt is yours and they can't just send a printout of what they already have, it has to be a full accounting of the amount they claim you owe PLUS a signed agreement or contract showing your signature. If You're still within your State's SOL, then validation can have the effect of at least stalling collection activity and possibly a lawsuit. IF they cannot validate, they MUST cease all collections and they must remove any and all tradelines they've entered on your credit report. You can find sample validation letters at www.creditinfocenter.com and on www.creditnet.com
