corporate cc, company in chapter 7What is the name of your state? Live in Indiana, worked in KY I worked for a company for 7 years that has now gone into chapter 7 bankruptcy. The company also owes me two months "deferred" pay for which we have filed an employee lien. It is unlikely we will see any of this money due to few assets left in the company. The company made no payments on the corporate credit card since April 2002 and the amount on my account is now more than $4,000. The credit card company tells me this is a "joint" account since my name is also on the card and I am therefore liable for the full amount. The account has been sent to a collection agancy with threats that my personal credit will be damaged. Can they do this? Should I try to come to some sort of settlement with the credit card company or collection agency? I feel betrayed by my former employer for saddling me with this debt for business travel expenses. What are my options? |

| Depending on what type of card you have, its very likely that you ARE responsible for the debt. Amex is a prime example of this. If your company gets a "corp" card in YOUR name, then YOU are totally responsible for the debt. Others put you on as an 'authorized user', if that is the case, then you are NOT liable for the debts. You need to find out exactly which type of arrangement this was.
