court date

What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? IL

I received a court summons to go to court tomorrow for a credit card. I have went before and they are awarded the judgement and you are done. I do not want to go. Can I not go and not be in trouble? Can you go to jail if you don't show up? I am seeing an attorney tomorrow to discuss my financial problems but it isn't in time for this court date.

No, you can't get in trouble for not going, they will just get their judgment by default.

Thanks so much for your input. I am having so much financial trouble and didn't know where to turn. I think this message board may help my stress.

If you know you owe it, you can't pay it, and you know the results of having a judgment against you, then it isn't worth it for you to stress out and worry about attending. Especially since a rep from the creditor will be there, who will try to make you feel, and look like, a worthless deadbeat, who has money, and just doesn't want to pay them.

Just stay home, and relax. They will send you the result, and copies of the judgment soon enough.

I went to see an attorney today. He told me that there was no way to pay all my debt off and I should file chapter 7. I was worried about losing my house but it sounds like I would be able to keep it. I hope I can get all this debt behind me and start over WITHOUT charge cards.

LOL! Wish you would have asked about that, too. Yes, there are ways to exempt your house, so you don't lose it.
