Credit Card Charge

Texas

I receved a new credit card ( bank switched from MC to VISA )
And I just received a charge for "cardholder pertection". I called and asked what this was for, they told me I signed something that allowed them to auto deduct for this disibility insurance for the card payment. It was a large amt. of money for each month

First, I don't remember signing anything. So they are sending me a copy of what I apparantley signed so that I can verifiy it. I have to wait 7-8 weeks to get a copy of this doucment with my signature.

Second, My concern is that I may have signed it thinking it was something to do with accepting this card, of course I cancel this policy, but they won't refund me.

If I had signed it, not meaning too, then how can I attack this "charge"?

1) threaten to cancel my card, I have been a long time customer
2) should I get my Lawyer to send a letter about the way that I was decieved?

Anyone have any suggestions on what I can do If I had signed this stupid card? I read what I sign so that is why I don't think I would have signed for it. I just want to check my options while I am waiting 2 months for this doucument.

I was never sent any booklets, pamplets about the policy, just a card that I found in my file that , in small print, about what was the terms.

thanks

Quit talking on the phone and start writing letters and send them CRRR. First send a letter canceling the policy. A CSR should be able to give you the address.
Next, under the Fair Credit Billing Act, you've 60 days to dispute a cc charge. Again, the Act requires you to reduce the dispute to writing. Look on the back of your statement and it should give an address separate from the payment address to send the dispute. Just tell them you never signed up fot the policy and to cancel the policy and credit your account.

thank you,

agian, I ask what if I did sign something that I thought was for receiving the cc, am I SOL or can I still dispute stating that I was not clear on what I was signing? or just dispute that I signed it, even though I did?

I hope to "h_ll" that I didn't sign something I didn't read but If I did what are my options

thanks bigun, your propmt response is so much appreicited. I am so upset about this I won't be able to sleep tonight

No need to lose sleep. You're allowed to cancel insurance policies. Just dispute as unauthorized and see what happens. Worse case, if you did authorize it you're stuck for the month or so premiums but you can certainly cancel the policy.

If you did in fact sign something and they send you a copy to review, SAVE IT. Make sure you have every page of whatever agreement you signed sent to you - not just the signature page. If they don't provide that with your initials on every page, threaten to sue them for alteration of contractual documents. JETX/IAAL, is there an better/official name for that cause of action?
This applies only if you feel that you were coerced into signing something you didn't understand or signing something under false pretenses.
If you DO remember signing whatever they send to you, don't bother fighting it. Just cancel the policy as bigun suggested and pay what you were charged.
