help! approximately 6 years ago my ex-girlfriend and I had a joint credit card. After we broke up, he assumed responsibility for the account. The company was informed of this and began sending the bllls to her. 3 years later they contacted me after she stopped making payments. Now I am being sued for the remaining balance (all of which were purchases she made). the account has been purchased by another company who is trying to recoup the full amount of the debt. What can I do and what are my rights? Nashville, TN

My response:

Either I'm reading your post incorrectly, or you've got some real gender confusion issues going on. Who are you ? The boyfriend, the girlfriend, or both ?

In your first sentence, you say "my girlfriend and I" which would appear to make you the "boyfriend" and the one who's writing the post. Then, in your next sentence you say, "After we broke up, he assumed responsibility . . ." which sounds like the "girlfriend" is writing the post, and speaking about the "boyfriend". Which is it ? Who is it ?
And since it's Tennessee, what is it ?
