Credit Card company's mistakes

i live in new york and i have a huge problem. a credit company has sent the lawyers after me. they called looking for john doe and when i told them there is no one by that name here they told me to write them a letter stating that claim in writing. so i did. next thing i know, they are accusing me of changing my name and social securtiy number in order to avoid paying the debts. i am certain they are after the wrong person because my credit report is spotless, then again they are accusing me of getting a new identity recently. if they did their job correctly, they would know i've had my name ever since i was born and did not change it recently as they have claimed. please help!!

This sounds like a scam to get you to give out personal information. I'd ask them to send me a letter on their letterhead and then turn that over to the police dept. for a fraud investigation of your on.

thank you for your advice. the think is that i think i know who they are after but since i don't have proof i can't exactly go pointing fingers. but i am positive that there are after the wrong person. they sent a court order subpoena to my credit card company and my mortage company. i've been given ten days to find a lawyer. what's wrong with the world? do nice guys really do finish last?

Wait a minute. If you think you know who they want, you need to tell them. Why did you let it get this far?

i am not positive that it's that person and if it turns out not to be that person, they can turn around and sue me for more damages. i can't go around wrongly accusing people like the credit card company is doing to me. plus the person is also a very close blood relative and he's not in the US nor is he planning on coming back anytime soon.
