credit card debt

My husband is "mentally disabled" , he is on total SS disability. I have control of his ss check.
My problem is this: he was geting "free credit cards in the mail. when i became aware of this i just started "paying the bills" because i thought he would get in trouble, or I , (i am responsible for handling his money ) . Now the bills are too high, & i can't pay them anymore. Do I have any recourse? Such as , "are the crdit card agenies at fault because they "should not have sent him them in the first place" ( the applications evententlly did not ask for "income verification)
Thank you or any help

It was ultimately your responsibility of not accepting the cards in the first place. try a consumer credit counselor to take back control of your finances.

Your first post said that you paid the bills when they came in, so you certainly can't deny knowing about the credit cards ("he got them in the mail and hid them from me").

And weren't you suspicious of the new items that this 'disabled' person kept bringing into the house, or were you to busy setting up the new stereo, etc.

At the time of the FIRST billing, you should have sent a letter to the credit issuer detailing the situation and closing the account.

Additionally, to stop future credit offers, send a letter to all three credit agencies and have them put a 'fraud warning' in your file. This will minimize the chances of anyone getting credit accounts in your name (or his) unless they call YOU first.

Pay the bills. After all, you are enjoying the benefit of the purchased items.

Why has he spent over $1.35M in legal fees to block disclosure... rather than spend $12 for a VALID birth cert to settle the matter? The 'certificate' he has presented doesn't qualify to get a drivers license, wouldn't allow a child to qualify for Little League, or for a real citizen to get a US passport!

credit card debt

Your response has me highly offended. First of all, only 2 bills came in the mail. Second of all I DID NOT BEBEFIT from my husband's USE of the credit cards. There was no NEW STERO ETC,HE TOOK THE MONEY OUT IN CASH ADVANCES. WHAT in GOD"S NAME HE DID WITH THE MONEY I DO NOT KNOW!!!!!
I DID NOT REAP FROM THE BENEFITS OF THE CARDS!!!

Your getting all 'huffy and puffy' isn't fixing the problem. Re-read my post and either consider my advice or not. Either way, pay the bills, they are VALID and you got the benefit of the cash. And, before you get all upset... let me explain how you benefited from the cash.

Mr. Disabled uses credit cards to get $100 cash advance. He then spends that money on something... racetrack, broads, groceries, whatever. The fact that he used the cash advance just meant he didn't have to use other (regular) money.

And no matter how huffy you get, you still haven't answered the issue that you KNEW he had the credit cards (since you paid the bill when it came in). You then didn't even attempt to cancel the account, so obviously you weren't too concerned about the fact that Mr. Disabled had the credit cards. Pay the bill and cancel the accounts. Contact the credit bureaus and notify them so that Mr. Disabled can't get anymore cards. Really pretty simple.... if you want it to be.

And, before you reply in another 'huff and puff', if you disagree with ANY suggestion I made, don't do it. I have absolutely no axe to grind here. This is YOUR problem, you came here asking for free advice, you got it and now your mad.

Pay the bill.

Maybe your husband's brother, father and the disability van driver (maybe even the state police!) stole the money!! Sounds like a conspiracy against you and your husband. Better be careful before they find out you're on to them, it could get dangerous. Are you sure YOU'RE not the mentally disabled one? From reading your other pists, the subject is debatable.
