credit card extension

6 years ago my mother gave me a credit card extension with $0 balance. she trusted me to use the credit card for just myself and she won't be using it anymore. we live separately so she just change her billing address into my address so i can just take care of the bills since i'll be the only one who'llbe using the credit card. after a year my credit went up to $5000.00 i told my mother that i already cancelled the card and there is no more balance in it. my mother got married and moved to another house. i also moved into another apartment and just hoped that the credit card company won't find us. it,s been 5-6years since then and a week ago somebody called my mother and verified her name, address and ss# and there she learned about the money she owed in her name but i'm the one who used the card. she was very upset because her husband take her name off from their bank account, and properties for protection from the collection agency. my mother didn't acknowledge the debt. they pretend they're only verifying her maiden name, birthdate, old address and ss# and if she owns that house and that they were calling her for jury duty purposes. later on they called again and my stepdad answered and denied that a certain person(my mother) lives in that house, my stepdad ask the person who the person representing and then he said that he is from this credit company. they didn't get the chance to ask my mother about the debt and have my mother to acknowledge it. what is of the statute of limitations in New York. TY.

You're a piece of work worrier. Thank God your stepdad has some sense. To answer your question, the SOL in New York is 6 years on cc debt. It's kinda important to know if it was 5 years or 6 since you quit paying. If your Mom is sued, I hope you'll step up and pay the judgement.
