Credit card helpWhat is the name of your state? Iowa My soon-to-be-ex opened three joint credit cards without my knowledge. I found statements while collecting paperwork for our divorce and promptly canceled the accounts. Does the credit card company keep the original application for credit so signatures can be compared, etc? Also, can I request written documentation of all items charged and who signed for it? I don't feel I should have to pay for these since they were not mine and would like to dispute. One has been opened for 5 years and I knew nothing about it. We have always had individual accounts on everything except mortgage. Last edited by bugsmom18; 12-09-2004 at 01:08 PM. Reason: spelling/grammar |

| Yes you can ask for those items if your name is on the account. Is the account still with the original creditor or did it get placed with a collection agency? |

| All three are with original creditor. One is 3 mos behind with a min due of $425. There is a total of $9000 in debt but the other two are current. These will most likely be split up in the divorce and I don't feel I should have to pay for them since I didn't know about them. I have the letters ready to send to creditors today to get copy of app and charge receipts, etc. I put in a 30 day deadline. Do they have to comply with this? I also had closed those accounts in May when I found the statements. Will my ex be able to open those up again w/o my permission if she has been paying on them? I did specify that they are not to be opened w/o my permission but have read some posts where this happened to others. Thanks for the help! |
