credit card issueabout 13 years ago my wife open account with a credit card company and she put me as a authorize signer, 3 years later we got divorced and she left me with the credit card to pay. I took charge of the payment and I have been paying and using the card for the last ten year I did run the balance high. A week ago she track me down and she claiming I use the card iligally so I talk to the credit card company and they told me nothing was iligal I did have the right to use the credit card, My exwife is threaning me to sue me for fraud. So I don't really understand the credit card company is telling me everything is fine. I'm stiil want to make the payment but for sure I can not come up with the full balance own. I try to aplies to different credit card company but I got decline because my credit rating is far from perfect. What should I do ? Thank |

| It is not illegal for you to use the card since you are an authorized signer. This doesn't mean that you should use it. It does show on your ex's credit report and effects her debt ratio. She does share in the blame for not having your name removed as an authorized signer in the first place. Technically (at least here in Texas) you are not even legally responsible for the payments, she is. Although, if she could prove in court that you made the charges she may be able to have it court ordered that you pay them. (not sure about that) Does she also charge on this card? If not, take note of the amount that you have charged and pay them off in installments as quickly as you can and then do not use that card anymore. Also, make sure and keep meticulous records of all your payments just in case you do land in court. Just my opinion. Best of luck to you. |
