credit card maxed out

What is the name of your state? Florida
My son has used an old credit card and charged over $15,000 on it. I let him use the card over ten years ago, and haven't heard a thing from the bank or any other company in years. Now they are pressing for payment. What is the best thing to do, aside from strangling my son. Really, I'm living in South America, and have been for the past nine years. I don't have any property in the States anymore. My residence is here in Bolivia, S. America.

When did he make these charges? If it was 10 years ago, then you have no worries as the credit card bill is out of the SOL= statue of limitations. What that means is, that they can try to sue you, but your defense would be the SOL. It would then be thrown out of court/dismissed. Is it reporting on your american credit report? If it is, dispute it with the credit bureau that is reporting it as "OBSOLETE" as it can only legally be reported for 7 1/2 year from the last time you made a payment. I would go ahead and send a letter to the creditor a letter that the bill is out of SOL and ask that they only contact you by mail. ALL THIS INFORMATION I HAVE GIVEN IS BASED ON IT BEING 10 YEARS AGO. Goodluck
