Credit Card Reservation Online

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?
I live in Hawaii, and I made a reservation for a Days Inn stay for 6 days scheduled for May 10, 2009, in Massachusettes.
At the time of making the reservation online, I had to use a credit card to confirm the reservation, however, no charges were made at that time and it states that no charges will be made on the credit card until time of check-out.
The agreement states that there is a NO CANCELLATION policy with this reservation.
My family has had a very serious medical situation arise and we have had to cancel our entire vacation.
I have contacted Days Inn in the hopes of getting a little consideration in this matter, however, they state that we are still responsible for the charges when they arise on the reservation day.
Even though there is no way we will be able to use the scheduled stay, are we still responsible?
What if I refuse to pay. What if I cancel my credit card.
I have contacted the Executive of WyndamResorts, the parent company of Days Inn, and they simply state that it is up to Days Inn.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I just looked at the Days Inn site and it says:
"We require a valid credit card to confirm your reservation and guarantee your room. Any required deposit or pre-payment will be charged to this card immediately. Otherwise, your card will not be charged until you check-out."

Simple answer... yes. You entered into a contract for the accomodations on those dates for the agreed amount.
Most vendors/merchants will allow refunds or agreed cancellation charges as good 'marketing' but they are not required to do so.

They could sue you for their 'damages'; however, that would be hard for them to prove those specific rooms were not used when they otherwise would have been.

Why has he spent over $1.35M in legal fees to block disclosure... rather than spend $12 for a VALID birth cert to settle the matter? The 'certificate' he has presented doesn't qualify to get a drivers license, wouldn't allow a child to qualify for Little League, or for a real citizen to get a US passport!

re: credit card reservation online

Thanks JETX

I appreciate your response.
I haven't been charged yet as there were no required deposits or pre-payments. To my knowledge there have been no charges.
I am trying to realize what my options are at this point. And I am trying to weigh them accordingly so as to incur the least amount of damages on my part.
I guess the point of my post was to find out if there were a way out of this agreement, since I haven't been charged anything yet. And find out what the legalities of cancelling my credit card would result in.
Thanks again.
