For 2 years I have been using a credit card that I thought was intended for me. I received the credit card in my NewYork home as a preapproved offer. The credit card had my name and information linked to it but my fathers middle initial. My father and I have had credit mix ups in the past since we both have the same names but have always managed to straighten most credit issues out by writing to the credit companies and explaining to them that there are two of us. "father and son"

My middle initial is different then my dads which helps me to identify when i receive something that might be for him.
We both live in different states to.

Anyway after contacting my father shortly after i received the credit card in questioned as well as contacting the credit card company several times to insure that the card was mine and not my fathers I thought the issue had been resolved and the credit was mine.

I have made payments and purchases on this card for the las two years up until recently when the card was closed and questions were raised as to why it was showing up on all 3 of my fathers credit reports.

The credit company in question was notified and again both my father and I answered questions and sent off letters to resolve what was now a mess.
2 weeks ago I received a phone call from the credit companies security and fraud department claiming that i filled out a application using my name and my fathers social security number to obtain credit with them.
of course i denied such accusations but they told me they had substancial proof and that if i did not pay the balance of 2800.00 by the end of this month via western union then they were going to turn it over to the fbi and local authorities for prosecution.

I have never been any type of legal mess like this before and am scared and losing sleep.
I honestly feel that the information that my father and I supplied this credit card company with in order to straighten out the scituation was used to falsify documents and generate a forged and false credit application.

In short---I beleive the credit card company knew they screwed up and were afraid of not getting paid so they made it look like a fraud.

What do i do and what happens when they turn this to the local authorities on the first of the month?
please help me

lost in NewYork

It is pretty obvious you need to get a lawyer. Especially if your Dad is on your side, and you can show there has been mix-ups in the past, you have a pretty good case.
