Question

Credit issues

I am seriously considering filing bankruptcy. I have an astronomical debt from several medical bills that I accrued within the last 2 1/2 years. Some of these are the bills from the medical providers themselves which are delinquent, and others are credit card debt of which I used to pay for other medical bills. The debt is large enough to validate a bankruptcy filing and I am young enough to file and rebuild my credit. My problem, however, is this....the largest credit card bill that I have is a joint account with my father who is listed as the primary card holder. He has not used this card for almost 8 years and the entire debt is mine and mine alone. Is there a way that I can remove his name from the credit card, file bankruptcy and not hurt his credit or leave him responsible for the debt? I was told that if he sent a letter to the credit card company stating that the debt is not his, that he has no affiliation with me, and that he wants his name removed, that they would be able to look back and see that the entire debt is mine. I would not contest this, as it is the truth. What do I do?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Thank you.

Sorry Ice, I think you're stuck. The only way out that I can see is have your Dad transfer the balance on that card to another card in his name only. But, before you do any transferring, have your lawyer give it the ok.
