credit problems

i live in florida. i have a lot of credit problems, ranging from credit cards to student loans to a past checking account. i was told by a friend that a peson can basically "get rid of" their entire credit history one time throughout the course of their life. now i haven't found anything out to support this so i am asking if this is true. can someone, without filing bankruptcy, get rid of all bad credit and start out anew, just as if they had no credit/credit history at all? i would truly appreciate the help, seeing as how i am trying to start a new life and would like to do so with a clean record. thanks.

The short answer is no. No mulligans in creditland.
About the only thing that can help is after 7 years, most derogatory stuff should fall off of your file automatically.Those student loans are another matter. They'll stay forever {with very few exceptions}.
As far as a bk filing, it does give a fresh start but, it'll remain unsuppressed on your credit history for 10 years.
