credit and remarriage

If you had bad credit in the past, is a new spouse them responsible for that debt, or is that yours alone as it was your debt before marriage.

When looking for financing to buy a home, would my past (before this marriage) credit work against us? Can he apply for a loan on his oown for a house, or must he claim my income?
