credit report dispute of old information in my file

Hello, first time here

Problem: I recently got a copy of my Credit reports.
I'm currently disputing an item on the report. This item is from a college I attended from 8/89 to 12/89.

The college is listing with the CR agency that the open date of the account is 2/95. I submitted a dispute to the two credit reporting agencies that the date open is 8/89 not 2/95.

One dispute came back answered by the college as information being correct. I called the college to attempt to clear this up. They stated that 2/95 is the date they went to a new accounting service and they can list 2/95 as the date the account was opened. (This college did not submit this for collection until 1999 what is called a tradeline collection - by equifax)

I never made a payment on this account. I checked with both Equifax and Experian who stated that the date open is the date the account was actually opened. I spoke with a supervisosr at Equifax and faxed my schedule from 89 showing that term as the date of attendance.

Equifax is submitting my second dispute to the college. Meanwhile the college is submitting this to their attorney, refused to change the information.

What to I do at this point? Should I send a certified letter to the college requesting all my records? What are my rights as far as getting this removed from my credit report? I need to get this cleared up so I can purchase a house.
