Credit Report Woes

Nevada -- I want to get negative information removed from my credit record. I have tried to resolve a debt issue with a creditor and have hit a brick wall. I admit that I owe money and have offered to pay my debt, but they continue trying to collect more than they have legally due. I understand that the Small Claims Court in my state can be used only to collect money, so it is obviously not an option. I want a forum where both sides can be heard and a judgement is given, so I can pay what is rightfully owed. Since the amount of money in dispute is so small ($220), it is not worth retaining an attorney. On the basis of principle, I will not pay more than I owe just to get the information removed from my record. I would be willing, however, to incur some costs to resolve this issue justly. Any suggestions? What are the costs?

Why do you feel they are asking for more than you owe?

What is the amount that you owe? What is the difference? What charges have they assessed to the original amount that you dispute?
