Credit Union Refuses to Provide For Vehicle Due to Outstanding LoanWhat is the name of your state? New York I just moved from NJ to NY and my registration on my car expired for NJ on 7/31/06. I need to transfer my plates and registration for my car to NY state and can not do so without a certified copy of the title listing the credit union as lienholder and a letter with their letterhead on it giving me permission to switch the registration over. They are refusing to send me this information due to the fact that I am 90 days past due on a personal loan with them. There is a cross collateral clause that states they can repossess the vehicle if the personal loan is not paid in full in a timely manner. The car is paid on time but that doesn't matter. They are aware that the car is not legal to drive in NY state with expired registration and plates from NJ and I just wanted to know if what they are doing is legal? i didn't think the paperwork should have anything to do with each other. Can someone get back to me asap on this because the more chances I take driving the vehicle this way I risk getting tickets and having the car impounded. This is our only vehicle for the family and I would hate for this to happen. Thanks for any replies. What is the name of your state?New YorkLast edited by brokegirl2006; 08-15-2006 at 11:56 AM. |

| You've already answered your question... As stated before, YES it is legal. I will highlight(as senior did) it again for your benefit... Quote:

You AGREED to the cross collaterization by signing the loan and doing business with the Credit Union. It is NOT the CU's fault you did not understand or read the fine print.
