Debt collection

What is the name of your state? South Carolina
I was married for 40 days and then my wife passed away suddenly. The question is of her bills in her name before we were married, am I responsible for paying them off or does sending the death certificate to the creditors take care of that?

Sorry to hear of your loss. SC is not a community property state. Your late wife's estate is responsible for paying any outstanding debts. If the estate is insolvent, nobody gets paid. Send copies of the death certificate and that should end it unless, the estate has assets.

Her mother wouldn't be able to pay them and she had no assets. Thanks for the info. I'll let you know what they say and thank you for the condolences.

I am sorry

I am so sorry for your loss. I can't add any legal advice just thought I would let you know that I was thinking if you and your family at this time.
