Debt Collector/Marshal Problem-need advice!

What is the name of your state? New York

Hello again. I'll try to make this short.
I have a debt of @ $2000 that was taken over by a CA/lawyer. They have now turned it over to a Marshal, placed a levy on my bank account and threatened garnishment if I did not make payment arrangements. They have since unfrozen my account, after taking $400 from it, and I have made payment arrangements with the Marshall and have begun making payments to them.
Suddenly, yesterday, I receive my pay stub and money had been garnishment from it! I was irrate. I called around and discovered that the garnishment was made from a 2nd Marshall on the same $2000 debt! I called the original CA/lawyer and they told me they will be working on resolving it and get back to me. What can I do? This has to be illegal to give the same debt account to 2 different Marshalls! Now that this money has been garnished from me from Marshal #2 I won't be able to pay Marshal #1 and uphold the agreement I have made with them. This $, however is all going toward the same debt!
Please let me know if anyone has had a similar experience and what they did/what I can do. Thanks in advance!

If I understand correctly, the CA/lawyer is admitting this is an error.

You need to get all this documented. I would send a letter to everyone -- the CA and both marshalls -- here is what happened with marshall 1, here is what happened with marshall 2, here is what I said to the CA and what they said to me, since marshall 2 garnished my pay I am unable to keep the commitment to marshall 1, will someone please tell me who is responsible to fix this and how they are going to fix it.

I would send the letters certified mail, return receipt requested.

THanks for the advice! The debt is from a credit card that has been inactive since about 2000.
