Debt Sold To Collection

What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state?illinois

my old debt was sold in 1999 to a collection agency from when i was in the state of tennessee. the original debt was made in 1996 though.

the statue of limitations is aprrox. 6 yrs. to collect an old debt?would that limitation apply to the 1996 date of original debt or because it was sold in 1999, the 6 yr. limitation of collection starts from 1999?

The SOL clock starts with the first time the account went unpaid. So if the last time you paid anything on it was 1996, you might be past the SOL. If you have any records for it, I'd look it up.

Another thing to consider is was there a judgement? That can also affect the SOL
