debtors rights

I live in IN. I have been making payments on a $418.00 debt that is at a collection agency. I pay $25.00 a month and my payments are regular. The agency wants the balance paid ($200) withen a week. I am not employed, I am married but I don't feel that my husband should be responsibe for my debt. Can they take me to court since I am making consistant payments? ***I was driving a rental car that recieved a "ding" 1" long in a parking lot while in my care.

Generally, most 'debt collectors' cannot take any action, unless they actually are the debt owners.

However, the debt owners can certainly take legal action, but considering the small amount of remaining debt and that you are making agreed payments, that would be very unlikely.

Sounds like the 'debt collectors' are trying to scare you into paying more.

Read your rights from the FDCPA at [url]http://www.ftc.gov/[/url] and tell them to pound sand.
