Decease Moms credit outstandingWhat is the name of your state? AZ My Mom just passed and we found a Capital One credit card that my Dad had no knowledge of as Mom always paid the bills, etc. Is he going to be held responsible for paying this debt that he did not create? Any advice to help me help him would be greatly appreciated. ![]() |

| While Arizona is a community property state you could, and probably should play dumb. Call Capital One and tell them that your mother has died. Be prepared to fax and/or mail a death certificate the same day. They may just charge off the debt, without going after your father. This is assuming your father is not on the card as responsible for the debt. Capital One just might not hold your father to it. Its worth a try. |
