defaulted loan rights

I live in Rhode Island, I have a defaulted school loan which has been referred to a collection company, this loan is outstanding since 94 and my taxes were garnished for the past two years. Now that I can pay it off, I've called the company,and I'm not sure if they are giving me the correct amount. what can the colection company charge me for besides intrest? Penn Adams
