disabled and cr. cd. debt - houseWhat is the name of your state? Ohio I am terminally ill; owe huge credit card debt incurred of course before I became disabled on SSD. I own small house; about $10,000 or so in equity. Is there a way to protect this house from liens from credit card companies? My son has paid all pmts. on this house from beginning -- just my name on mortgage and deed. How can I add his name on deed and get my name off? Thanks so much for help. |

| OH exemptions for a home are: "Real or personal property used as residence to $5000 Property held as tenancy by the entirety may be exempt against debts owed by only one spouse" Even if you've really got about 10K in equity, its unlikely they could sieze and force the sale of your home. They could place a lien against it. You would have to deed the house over to your son and then, I believe, you'd have to sign a quit-claim on it. I'm not certain of the process though, but I'm sure someone else here is ![]()
